What was your main focus when designing your kitchen?
When designing our kitchen, I think for us it was important that it was family friendly. We’ve got two dogs, a two-year-old daughter and another on the way, so for us it’s about making sure we had the space and practicality.
What advice would you give to a new kitchen buyer?
Be brave. Go for those bold colours. Don’t be afraid to make those big, daring decisions to really showcase your personality and what you want from your kitchen.
What’s your favourite part of your new kitchen?
The smart storage solutions and integrated appliances that we opted for. The Ninka Bin and Internal Drawer Unit are accessible and look premium too. The 500mm Larder Blumotion that pull out really maximise the space that we have and allows plenty of room for all our cooking essentials.
How did you decide on the colours and styles used in your design?
As we were undergoing a whole-house renovation at the time, we wanted to ensure the colours in the kitchen aligned with what we were doing everywhere else. With that in mind, we chose a contemporary design and, as we had used lots of dark colours elsewhere in the house, made sure the colours within the kitchen matched.
What trends inspired your design choices?
We had a thorough look on Instagram. That’s always helpful for picking out different colours and styles. We also used the Magnet brochure and when we saw the Green Olives and Coffee Grounds together in one of the images, we definitely had a ‘bingo’ moment.
The Goddens wanted a contemporary and minimal kitchen that incorporated bold, earthy tones. To complement the darker tones within the rest of their home, the couple opted for a calming combination of Green Olives and Coffee Grounds; a brave yet beautiful colour palette.
The couple required a practical kitchen to accommodate their family life yet didn’t want to compromise on style. Through considered design, Kim curated a functional space that weaved in a series of smart storage solutions that would help Kelly and Jamie with their everyday family life.
The couple also chose to add in premium finishing touches such as integrated LED lighting that’s built into the Integra Soho profiling. The inconspicuous lighting provides a welcoming yet chic effect when turned on and is particularly great for having guests over.
Alongside a family hub, the couple also wanted to use their kitchen as an entertaining space for guests. The large central island with overhang allows for plenty of socialising as guests can sit at the island whilst the couple cook or prepare drinks.
The sophisticated design of this open-plan space means that Kelly and Jamie can easily switch from family mode to glamourous hosts in an instant.
